What is the Claude Team plan for scientists?

The Claude Team plan for scientists gives academic and non-profit research groups and labs discounted access to a Claude Team subscription plan. Standard seats are free, and Premium seats are $15 per user per month. This discounted pricing is for verified research groups, available for 12 months and offered to a limited number of groups.

A principal investigator (PI) can sign up directly, verify their eligibility, and then invite their whole group.

What’s included?

Every seat includes everything in Claude Team:

  • Claude Science, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork

  • Central billing and administration

  • Single sign-on (SSO)

Premium seats add five times more usage and higher limits for long-running analyses.

What does it cost?

  • Standard seats: $0 per user per month

  • Premium seats: $15 per user per month, or $180 per user per year with annual billing

This discounted pricing is available for 12 months from when you sign up. After 12 months, seats renew at the then-current price for this plan. We’ll notify workspace admins before that happens. Terms apply.

Who is eligible?

Principal investigators (PIs) or equivalent at accredited universities and nonprofit research institutes working in the natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering, and related fields are eligible to apply. Once verified, PIs can add additional group members including postdocs, graduate students, and researchers. Eligibility as PI is verified when you sign up.

How do I sign up?

  1. Go to the program page and start an application as the PI or lab lead.

  2. Verify your eligibility. You’ll confirm your institutional affiliation. Most applications are reviewed within seven business days.

  3. Once approved, you’ll get an email and can set up your workspace and invite your group right away.

How many seats can I have?

From 1 to 25 seats per group.

Frequently asked questions

I’m already on the discounted Team plan. What changes?

Your plan moves to the new pricing automatically for billing charges after August 27, 2026—no action needed. Prior charges, including prepaid annual seats, aren’t refunded or prorated. Any seats you add to your plan after August 27, 2026 will be billed at the new pricing. Your workspace admin will get an email with the details.

My university already has a Claude Enterprise agreement. Should I use this?

Check with your institution first. If your campus has a Claude agreement, contact your account administrator. This plan is for small research groups whose institutions don’t have an enterprise agreement in place. If you’re an institution interested in Claude Enterprise, please contact us and a member of our team will get in touch.

What if my group stops using it?

If a group has no activity for 90 days, we may return it to standard Team pricing so that discounted seats go to active researchers. We’ll email the workspace admin before that happens.

What if my project needs more than a seat provides?

Does Claude train on my data?

By default, Anthropic doesn’t train its models on user data from Team and Enterprise plans. If you explicitly opt in or submit feedback, those conversations may be used to improve our models or products.

Can I apply the discounted Team plan pricing to my existing Team plan?

First, you must complete the application flow to verify your eligibility for the discounted plan. Once you are verified, you can apply the discounted pricing to an existing plan that you manage in Settings > Account under Program verifications.
