Get started with Claude Duet

Claude Duet is a research preview of Claude that you message the way you'd message a person. Tell it what you need, typed or spoken, and it works in the apps you've connected, lets you know when something needs you, and is designed to ask before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything. This article explains what Claude Duet does, who can get access, how to join the waitlist, and what it can't do yet.

Claude Duet is available as a research preview to users on the Pro and Max plans in the US, through a waitlist. It uses your Claude account settings and your Pro or Max plan usage limits. It isn't available on Team or Enterprise plans yet, and we plan to bring it to those plans later. Access opens in waves, and features can change during the research preview.

Who can get access

To use Claude Duet, you need:

  • A Pro or Max plan

  • A Claude account in the US

  • An invitation from the waitlist

Why you might not have access yet

  • Invitations go out in waves, so joining the waitlist doesn't guarantee a specific date.

  • Claude Duet is available in the US only during the research preview.

  • Claude Duet isn't available on Team or Enterprise plans yet.

  • The email address you used on the waitlist doesn't match your Claude account, or the Google or Apple account on your phone. Access is tied to the email address you gave us.

How Claude Duet works

Claude Duet runs on your Claude account, so the memory, skills, and connectors you've set up in Claude are there from your first message. It works on its own computer in the cloud, so it can keep working after you close the app.

  • Message it like a person. Type a message or record a voice message. Your main thread stays in one place, so Claude Duet picks up where you left off. You can also start separate channels for different topics, and they share the same memory.

  • Start the day with a brief. Each morning, it looks across your email and calendar, picks what most needs your attention, and can start the first steps, like drafting replies for you to review. Through the day, it sends updates on the work it's doing and follows up on threads that have gone quiet.

  • Hand it larger jobs. Describe what you need, and it works out which apps to use and how much effort the job takes. Bigger results come back as files you can review and edit, such as a research brief, a financial model, a slide deck, or a dashboard. Finished work appears in the Make tab.

  • Add plugins. Claude Duet supports plugins, such as the small business plugin, and can suggest ones that fit your work.

  • Use websites without a connector. For sites that don't have a connector, Claude Duet uses its own browser in the cloud.

Example requests

  • "Clear out anything in my inbox that I don't need to read."

  • "Check Stripe for unpaid invoices and draft reminder emails for me to approve."

  • "Pull together a brief on this company before my 2 pm meeting."

Keep track of tasks

The Tasks tab shows what Claude Duet is working on and highlights tasks that need your input. Your main thread stays quieter: Claude Duet posts there when a task is done or needs a decision from you. It may suggest that a task looks finished, but only you can mark a task as completed.

Join the waitlist and get the app

  1. Go to the Claude Duet product page and select "Join the waitlist."

  2. Enter your name and email address. If you already use Claude, enter the email address on your Claude account.

  3. Choose your Claude plan and your phone type (iPhone or Android). You can also tell us what you do and what you'd hand off to Claude Duet first.

  4. Select "Submit". We're adding people gradually, and you'll get an email when it's your turn.

  5. When it's your turn, open the invitation email on your phone and follow the setup steps for iPhone or Android. Use the Apple or Google account linked to the email address you gave us, since access is tied to that address.

  6. Open Claude Duet and sign in with your Claude account. It can take a few minutes for the app to become available after you accept the invitation.

Connect your apps

Claude Duet can use the apps you've already connected in Claude. You can manage access in your Claude settings. It works with the connectors you've connected in Claude, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Slack, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Docusign, and Calendly. You start every connection yourself, and you can disconnect any app at any time. Disconnecting an app stops Claude Duet from accessing it from that point on, but memory of past information from earlier conversations is kept.

Partner integrations

Claude Duet also works with a few partner services:

  • Stripe: Check your Stripe account for unpaid invoices and draft reminder emails for you to approve. This uses the Stripe connector, which is separate from Link.

  • Link: Pay for purchases you approve with Link, Stripe’s digital wallet. Learn more about how to use Link by Stripe with Claude Duet.

  • Shop Pay: Pay for purchases you approve with Shop Pay, Shopify’s wallet. Learn more about how to use Shop Pay with Claude Duet.

Claude Duet is designed to ask before each purchase, and each purchase uses a one-time card that only works for that purchase. Link and Shop Pay are available only in Claude Duet for now, and you connect them in Claude Duet, not in the connectors directory.

Search your past chats

Claude Duet can search your past chats to pick up context from earlier work, so you don't have to repeat yourself. It searches your Claude Duet chats and your chats in Claude outside of projects. When you delete a chat, it's removed from search.

This uses the same Search and reference chats setting as Claude. To stop Claude Duet from searching your past chats, turn off Search and reference chats in Settings > Memory.

Limitations

During the research preview, keep these limits in mind:

  • You can't choose a model. Claude Duet runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and decides how much effort a job needs.

  • You can't watch Claude Duet work in its browser or take over the browser.

  • It checks your accounts at set intervals, so something urgent can arrive between checks.

  • It can't see all of your projects or the files on your computer, and it can read your work in Claude but can't change it.

  • It doesn't make phone calls or send text messages to other people. With your approval, it can send emails from the accounts you've connected.

  • Some actions are off-limits even with your approval, such as trading securities, moving money between accounts, or accessing someone else’s account.

  • Some connectors, such as Slack, work with limits in Claude Duet. Microsoft 365 isn't available yet.

Claude Duet can also make mistakes, such as misreading a thread or misjudging what's urgent. Review drafts and approval requests before you confirm them.

Pricing and usage limits

Pricing. During the research preview, Claude Duet is included with the Pro and Max plans at no extra cost.

Usage limits. Claude Duet uses your plan's usage limits, including the five-hour session and weekly limits, at the same rate as chats in Claude. Work it does in the background, like the morning brief and check-ins, also counts, so you may reach your limits sooner than with chat alone. Claude Duet checks your accounts at set intervals to keep that background work from using up your limits. Learn more about usage limits.

Usage limit reset. After you're admitted to the Claude Duet research preview, you get one full usage limit reset, which resets both your five-hour session and weekly limits. Learn more about limit resets.

Privacy, safety, and control

Claude Duet is designed to show you what it's about to do and await your approval before sending a message, making a payment, signing a document, or deleting anything. If you can’t approve right away, Claude Duet finishes the rest of the task and brings the approval back to you later. When it gives you a number or a summary, it tells you which email, file, or spreadsheet it came from.

Claude Duet reads content written by other people, such as email and web pages, and that content can contain instructions meant to mislead it. This is called prompt injection. Claude Duet is built to treat what it reads as information and to act on what you ask, but no defense is perfect, which is one reason consequential actions need your approval.

In its browser, Claude Duet aims to follow the rules sites set for agents. When a site asks for a password, you type it into a separate form on your device. The form sends it straight to the browser, which is designed to keep it out of your chat with Claude Duet.

Purchases with Link and Shop Pay

Where to get help with a purchase depends on the problem:

  • Order status, delivery, returns, or a product refund: Contact the store you bought from.

  • A Link charge or Link account problem: Select “Get help” in the Link app, or visit Link support.

  • A Shop Pay charge or Shop Pay account problem: Contact Shop support.

  • Claude Duet chose a different product, store, or option than you intended: Contact us. Learn more about how to get support.

Send feedback

You can send feedback or report any issues directly from the chat by telling Claude Duet in plain words what happened, and it will pass your report to our team.
