What is Claude for Government (C4G)?

Claude for Government is Anthropic's FedRAMP-High authorized product.

How do I access Claude for Government?

Contact [email protected] or purchase through Carahsoft.

What is the difference between Claude Enterprise and Claude for Government?

Claude Enterprise (CE) does not have FedRAMP authorization. Claude for Government (C4G) is FedRAMP-High authorized for mission-related federal work. C4G is not at feature parity with commercial Claude plans.

Does Claude for Government include Claude Code?

No. Customers purchase C4G separately and purchase API credits through Bedrock or Vertex for use with Claude Code in a FedRAMP authorized environment.

Can I use Claude API in government environments?

Yes. Claude API is available via Amazon Bedrock (in AWS GovCloud - FedRAMP High, and in IL6+) and Google Vertex with Assured Workloads (FedRAMP-High).

For more information, see our Claude Code product page.

2. FedRAMP, Impact Levels, and compliance

When should I use a FedRAMP authorized version?

Customers should use Claude in FedRAMP when processing the following types of data: federal customer data, personally identifiable information (PII), controlled unclassified information (CUI), protected health information (PHI), mission-critical data (including ITAR/EAR), and federal contract information (FCI).

What is Claude's FedRAMP authorization level?

Claude for Government (C4G), and Claude via Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud and Google Vertex with Assured Workloads are all FedRAMP-High.

Are Claude's models themselves FedRAMP authorized?

FedRAMP and DoD Impact Levels are certifications for cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS). AI models are software components, not cloud services. Claude models deploy within authorized environments, and customers maintain their compliance posture through the hosting platform.

How can I get access to your FedRAMP authorization information and other associated documentation?

Please submit a request for the package directly to FedRAMP using this FedRAMP Package Access Request Form.

Can I use Claude for CUI (Controlled Unclassified Information)?

Yes, via AWS Bedrock GovCloud (IL5) or through the Claude for Government (C4G) FedRAMP-High environment.

Can I use Claude in IL6/Secret environments?

Yes. Claude is available in the AWS Secret region (IL6) via Amazon Bedrock.

Is Claude CMMC compliant?

CMMC is a certification of business practices protecting CUI data, not a certification of your tech stack. CMMC does require FedRAMP-Moderate (or higher) tools when dealing with CUI. Claude for Government meets this requirement.

If a customer purchases Claude Enterprise via AWS Marketplace, is that FedRAMP?

No. Claude Enterprise has no USG authorizations. Customers requiring FedRAMP compliance must use Claude for Government (C4G) or access Claude models through FedRAMP-authorized CSPs (Bedrock GovCloud or Vertex Assured Workloads).

3. Cloud service providers and deployment

How do I deploy Claude in AWS Bedrock GovCloud?

Work with your AWS account team to enable Claude models in your GovCloud environment. Claude is available as a managed service through Bedrock. Contact your AWS representative for setup guidance.

What is the pricing and commitment information for Claude on Bedrock?

Contact AWS directly for pricing and commitment requirements. Usage is typically pay-per-token through standard Bedrock pricing.

4. Pricing and procurement

What is the $1/month government offer and who qualifies?

The $1/month offer is specifically for federal, judicial, and legislative agencies for C4G only. It does not extend to defense contractors, FFRDCs, or state/local governments, which receive standard pricing.

Can we purchase Claude through GSA?

Yes. Claude is available through the GSA OneGov agreement and is resold via Carahsoft (carahsoft.com/anthropic/solutions).

Can we purchase directly from Anthropic or only through Carahsoft?

Both options are available. Anthropic can sell C4G directly, and it is also resold via Carahsoft.

How much does Claude Code cost for government customers?

Claude Code pricing is separate from C4G. Customers purchase Claude Code seats and separately purchase API credits through their chosen CSP (Bedrock or Vertex).
